It was my honor to represent you in the 2007 Nevada Legislature. Since returning from Carson City, I am receiving more calls and e-mails than ever before about our economic future.

People everywhere are concerned about protecting their largest investment—their home. Far too many Nevadans are having difficulty meeting house payments and are in jeopardy of losing their homes.

Others are not worried about foreclosure, but are concerned about losing their homes if they lose their job or if they are suddenly hit with out-of-pocket medical bills for an illness or injury.

The Legislature has taken steps to help you protect your home.

For those facing foreclosure or have friends and family facing foreclosure—Funding has been allocated for additional counselors to provide homeowners in jeopardy of losing their homes reliable information about refinancing options. Nevadans needing this assistance should call 1-800-451-4505.

For those not facing foreclosure, but wishing to protect their homes in case of other economic difficulty, Nevada has a "Homestead Law", allowing you to protect your home for up to $550,000 in value against seizure for debt. In both of the last two legislative sessions, the value of your home that can be protected through the Homestead Declaration has been increased.

Filing a homestead exemption form is easy and I would be happy to send you one.Just complete the form following the instructions and mail it with a check for $14 to the Clark County Recorder’s Office.
